rank one - shoes

Rean was good at picking out the right answer, but when Alisa presented him with two pairs of very similar shoes, he found he was at a loss for what was correct.

rank two - frighten

Watching him go in the giant robot to who knew where was the most terrifying thing Alisa had ever seen--likewise, watching as she grew smaller, trying to defend him against a foe she couldn't beat was the most frightening thing Rean had ever encountered.

rank three - abrasive

"It isn't as though I'm trying to be abrasive!" Alisa yelled, red-faced, and Rean just chuckled sheepishly, rubbing the back of his head, and mused that this was just how Alisa was.

rank four - angel

"Phew...that quartz of yours is a godsend, Alisa," Rean gasped -- he and the others were on their knees, but Alisa was standing, ready and prepared, and she just flashed him a smile and lifted her bow to finish the job.

rank five - motivate

Rean was finding that on top of his motivation to his class and teacher...he was also motivated by sparkling red eyes and a mischievous smile, and he didn't think that that could really hurt.

gaius + laura

rank one - wind

"What does the wind tell you now?" she asked, full of good humor as she leaned against him; Gaius chuckled, shaking his head, because it was silly to think he'd be listening to the wind when he had Laura in his arms.

rank two - square

As far as defensive formations went, Laura and Gaius were usually the very front line--which was fine by him, because he always knew she'd be right there backing him up.

rank three - moonlight

Her hair almost glowed in the moonlight, a light blue, and Gaius had to review his favorite colors and make some changed.

rank four - boat

There was nothing more romantic than a leisurely boat ride on Lake Ebel in Laura's hometown...Gaius would have said, if they hadn't been in fierce pursuit of a mythical fish.

"Someday, you will have to allow my family and my people to entertain you," Gaius told her; in true knightly fashion, she placed a hand over her heart and responded, "I would be honored."

emma + elliot

rank one - charm

"I-it's one of your charm points...!" Elliot stammered when she bemoaned her glasses fogging up in the muggy summer heat, only to blush immediately after from shame.

rank two - strawberry

She reminded him, somehow, of fruits and earthy things--strawberries and thyme, blueberries and rosemary, and so much life and warmth.

It was cheating, she knew, to use a spell to unlock his door--but he was sick, and she was bringing him soup, so maybe a little cheating wasn't so bad?

Without a doubt, he was the frailest of the lot; still, Emma was always there to heal his wounds, and that made him feel better that he wasn't quite so ripped like Rean.

She gave him a charm to protect him, and prayed that it would work--he knew, even without knowing her magic, that it was more than just a pin, and kept it on him always.

machias + jusis

rank one - evade

Their first battle together, they collided when trying to evade the same enemy; their last, they worked in tandem perfectly, not even needing to exchange a glance.

rank two - scream

Seeing Jusis take the blow from one of the nightmarish creatures at the depths of the schoolhouse, watching him crumple to the ground almost lifelessly, Machias reflected that there was a ringing in his ears--he didn't even remember the way he yelled his name, though he must have.

rank three - money

Strangely, when they finally did go out together, Jusis did not once try to pay for a meal; it took a few times and Rean giving him a hint for Machias to realize that Jusis, for once, was trying not to stomp all over his pride.

rank four - dance

The courtly art of dancing, Machias decided, was beyond him--especially when his partner was a smirking and infuriating Albarea demanding that he take the lead himself.

rank five - unwieldy

When they kissed the first time, they were all awkward limbs and unwieldy movements, bumping noses and unfocused desire, and it was still one of the best things either of them had ever experienced.

sara + neithardt

rank one - delirious

"Y'know... you're not so bad, are ya? Deep down..." Sara mumbled in a drunken stupor; Niethardt tried to ignore the way it almost made him flush, and focused on getting the troublesome woman home.

rank two - assess

The first time they met, they were all wary and bristling, two top-notch fighters sizing each other up (and Niethardt had to admit that in that, she'd never really let him down).

rank three - torture

But still, spending any lengthy period of time around her was torture even so.

rank four - discredit

"You really are a nice guy, aren't you?" she murmured, eyeing him thoughtfully; he cleared his throat, and responded with almost a sense of humor, "I did not ask you to insult and discredit me."

rank five - seduce

"Is it working?" she asked, only to receive, "You must be joking" as a response.

(It worked, but it took five more drinks and they hardly remembered it in the morning.)
